The short version. ByteBack Live works on your phone. It has no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no accounts. The only time it goes online is when you enter a license key: it sends that key and a random install name to Lemon Squeezy to activate it. Nothing else leaves the app. Google Play handles its own data under Google's policy. We don't sell any data.
Who runs ByteBack Live
ByteBack Live (Android package com.byteback.live) is a free live-wallpaper app with a home-screen and lock-screen widget and a library of your wallpaper packs. It is built and operated by ByteBack, an independent developer. Contact: the message form on bytebacknj.com.
What data the app handles
License activation (the app's only network use)
When you enter a license key to unlock a wallpaper pack, the app sends an HTTPS request to Lemon Squeezy's license service at api.lemonsqueezy.com containing exactly two things:
- the license key you entered, and
- an instance name: a random identifier the app generates once per install. It is not derived from your device, phone number, account or any hardware ID, and it changes if you reinstall the app.
The app sends nothing else: no name, no email, no device model, no location, no list of apps, no photos. As with any internet connection, Lemon Squeezy's servers can see the IP address the request comes from, along with standard connection information. The app does not add any of that itself.
The app stores the activation result on your device so it doesn't need to activate the same pack again. The app makes no network requests at any other time, and imported packs play fully offline.
Motion sensors
If you turn on tilt parallax, the app reads your phone's motion sensors to shift the wallpaper layers as you tilt the phone. Readings are used on the device in real time and are never stored or sent.
Files you import
Packs (.bbwp files) are imported through Android's system file picker, so the app can only open the file you choose. Imported packs are copied into the app's private storage on your device and are never uploaded.
Lock-screen image (optional)
If you choose it, the app uses Android's SET_WALLPAPER permission to set a still image from the pack as your lock-screen wallpaper. This happens on the device only.
Widget and settings
Your widget choice, selected wallpaper and settings are stored only on your device.
Permissions
- INTERNET — used only for license activation with Lemon Squeezy, as described above.
- SET_WALLPAPER — used only if you choose to set a still lock-screen image.
The app does not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, phone, SMS or photo library. Motion sensors on Android don't require a permission prompt.
Google Play
You download and update the app through Google Play. Google may collect information when you do, and Android may send Google crash and diagnostic reports if you've allowed that in your device settings. This happens under Google's own privacy policy, not under the app's control. ByteBack doesn't receive this data, except for the aggregated statistics Google shows developers in the Play Console (such as install counts and crash rates, and any crash details Google chooses to show developers, which ByteBack uses only to fix bugs). The app contains no Google analytics, advertising or tracking code of its own.
What we don't do
- No ads or ad networks
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs in the app
- No user accounts or sign-in
- No selling, renting or sharing of data
- No tracking across other apps or websites
- No collection of photos, files or sensor data
Lemon Squeezy
Wallpaper packs are bought on bytebacknj.com, not in the app. Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record. When you buy, you give your payment and contact details to Lemon Squeezy, not to the app. Lemon Squeezy keeps purchase records and license activation records (including the instance name and the IP address of the activation request) under its own privacy policy and retention practices, which ByteBack doesn't control. As the seller, ByteBack can view order and license records in its Lemon Squeezy account, and uses them only to provide support, resolve billing problems and prevent license abuse.
Retention and deletion
ByteBack runs no server for the app and keeps no copy of data from it. Everything the app stores lives on your device; clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes all of it. To ask about activation or purchase records held by Lemon Squeezy, contact us through the message form (we can deactivate a license instance for you) or contact Lemon Squeezy directly. Data held by Google is managed through your Google account.
Children
ByteBack Live is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app itself collects none. Wallpaper purchases require a payment method and are intended for adults. If you believe a child has made a purchase, contact us and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, for example if a future version of the app sends any new data, we'll update the "Last updated" date and post the new version here before that app version is released.
