The short version. Mirage gives you an AI-detection score for images and videos. It's a probability, not a guarantee. Don't use the result as legal evidence. Mirage Pro is a subscription unless you choose lifetime. Refunds follow Google Play / Apple App Store policy.
Agreement
By installing or using the Mirage app ("Mirage", "the app", "we", "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please uninstall the app. These terms are between you and ByteBack NJ (Eric Allen), the operator of Mirage.
What Mirage does
Mirage analyzes photos and videos you provide and outputs a probability that they were generated by AI versus captured by a real camera. It combines a three-model neural ensemble with on-device forensic checks (metadata, JPEG fingerprinting, pixel-level analysis) and surfaces the verdict in the app.
Detection is not 100% accurate. No AI detector is perfect. Real photos can be misclassified as AI (false positive), and AI images can slip through as authentic (false negative). Adversarial generators are designed to defeat detection. Results are best understood as a confidence estimate, not a verdict of fact.
Don't use Mirage results as legal evidence
Mirage's output is not intended for, and should not be used as, evidence in legal proceedings, journalism, employment decisions, identity verification, immigration matters, or any other consequential adjudication. If you need forensic-grade analysis of an image, hire a qualified expert. We disclaim all liability for decisions made on the basis of Mirage's results.
Free scans and Mirage Pro
Every new install includes 3 free scans. After that, the app requires Mirage Pro to continue scanning. Pro is offered in three tiers:
- Monthly — $4.99 / month, auto-renewing
- Yearly — $29.99 / year, auto-renewing
- Lifetime — $49.99 one-time, non-renewing
Subscriptions automatically renew at the same price until cancelled in your Google Play or Apple App Store account. You can cancel at any time from your device's subscription settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Lifetime is a single one-time payment with no renewal.
Mirage Pro entitles you to unlimited scans and all current and future Pro features. We may add, remove, or change Pro features at our discretion.
Refunds
Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by the platform where you purchased: Google Play refund policy for Android, Apple App Store refund policy for iOS. ByteBack NJ cannot directly issue refunds for platform purchases.
Acceptable use
You may use Mirage to analyze images and videos you own, are authorized to analyze, or that are otherwise lawful for you to process. You agree NOT to:
- Submit images that contain child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or other content illegal in your jurisdiction
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code beyond what is permitted by law
- Use Mirage to harass, defame, or harm any person (including using a "real" or "AI" verdict to deceive others)
- Automate scans at a volume intended to abuse the backend or other users
- Resell or rebrand Mirage results without express written permission
Intellectual property
Mirage, its UI, its model ensemble configuration, and the bytebacknj.com domain are owned by ByteBack NJ. The underlying AI models are owned by their respective creators on Hugging Face and used under their licenses. You retain all rights to the images you submit.
Privacy
Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms by reference.
Disclaimer of warranty
Mirage is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that defects will be corrected.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ByteBack NJ and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of Mirage — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these Terms is limited to the amount you paid us for Mirage Pro in the twelve months preceding the claim (or $50 if you have not paid).
Termination
You may stop using Mirage at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the app. Termination does not entitle you to a refund except as required by the applicable platform's refund policy.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, and you consent to that jurisdiction and venue.
Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and surface a notice inside the app on first launch after the change. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
